Electro-Technician by profession, René Closter started his working career in 1973 within the professional fire brigade of the City of Luxembourg and acted over years as their spokesman.

After having started studies again in business management, René Closter became vice president of a global financial institution with management positions in London, Hong Kong, New York and Dubai.

René Closter is known for founding Luxembourg Air Rescue Group in 1988 and fills today’s position of President and CEO of Luxembourg Air Rescue and CEO of Luxembourg Air Ambulance.

Furthermore, René Closter is vice chairman of DRF Luftrettung (Deutsche Rettungsflugwacht Luftrettung).

He has been appointed as Technical Adviser for the Grand-Duchy national rescue services by the Luxembourg Government.

He is member of the Consulting Board of ING Luxembourg and board member of various institutions and companies in Luxembourg.

René Closter is a licensed helicopter pilot and paramedic. At the end of September 2015, René Closter was awarded for his efforts in the cross border rescue services cooperation and received the prize from the “Stiftung zur Förderung der deutsch-luxemburgischen Zusammenarbeit auf dem Gebiet der Wissenschaften”.

During all his years in the rescue business (fire brigade and Luxembourg Air Rescue) he performed more than 14.000 missions in Luxembourg and actively participated in numerous humanitarian missions worldwide.

He is co-founder of the GRIMP (groupe de reconnaissance et d’intervention en milieu périlleux) and was chief of the divers division of the professional fire brigade.

  • In 2010 René Closter has been elected among the ten most successful company founders in Luxembourg.
  • He has been granted the title of “Chevalier de l’Ordre de Nassau avec Couronne” by the Grand Duke of Luxembourg and “Officier de l’Ordre de la Couronne” by his Majesty the King Albert II of Belgium.
