“We are spiritual beings on a temporary human experience.” – Wayne Dyer

My experience on earth started in Cameroon, Africa. From a very tender age, I noticed my interest in science, which is the domain where to explore and understand how nature works. This finally made me study chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics in high school. Thereafter, I had the urge to pursue a career in science what led me to Germany. My undergraduate and postgraduate studies were biotechnology at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and molecular biotechnology at the Technical University Munich. My doctoral education happened at the University of Duisburg-Essen in protein biochemistry where I focused on protein-protein interactions, chromatin biology and how the cell, the smallest unit of consciousness, works. At this stage, I realised that although science is based on reductionism, there is a hidden intelligence that carefully and meticulously guides the cell´s functioning. A cell can only function when all of its components cooperate closely. By breaking it down into its individual parts its wholeness is lost, and thus also its functioning. There is a living energy field from which the entire universe is built.

I was spellbound with what this revelation meant to me. Thus, I went on to pursue a career in the industry as an applied scientist by doing research and innovation projects at the interface between academia and industry. My work was to apply techniques of industrial biotechnology on managing waste streams from the agro-food sector to produce added-value products such as platform chemicals. Nowadays, many of these chemicals are obtained from the petroleum industry and by using renewable biological waste resources to acquire them; we reduce our dependence on the oil industry.

Although I found an enormous satisfaction in what I did, I still felt that something was missing. I had an intrinsic feeling that drove me on a quest to how I could integrate science into my daily life. I came to the realisation that science is not only compatible with spirituality but that it is a profound source of spirituality. The notion that science and spirituality are somehow mutually exclusive does a disservice to both. Science is the language of spirituality used by many spiritual teachers such as Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, Lao Tzu, Krishna et cetera.
